James Millard - King Lear

James Millard - King Lear

James Millard will be joining the cast of King Lear for the West End Transfer with Sir Ian McKellen.

Sir Ian McKellen takes to the West End stage in one of William Shakespeare’s greatest roles as he stars in King Lear at the Duke of York's Theatre from 12th July.

McKellen starred in Jonathan Munby’s production at Chichester Festival Theatre in 2017, and tickets to see the production at the Duke of York's Theatre in London are on sale now.

One of the country’s greatest acting talents, Ian McKellen started his career in repertory theatres across the country before making a name for himself with the National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company in leading roles alongside the likes of Judi Dench. On screen, he is known for his roles such as Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, and Magneto in the X-Men film series.

He plays the title character in King Lear, which has previously said is likely to be his ‘last big Shakespeare part’. McKellen’s performance, which sees Lear descend into madness as he divides his kingdom amongst his children, was hailed by critics and audiences alike during its original run in Chichester.
